Low sperm Count
Low sperm count, also known as oligozoospermia, is a condition where a man's
semen contains a
lower than normal number of sperm. A normal sperm count is typically above 40 million sperm per
ejaculate, while a low sperm count is typically below 15 million.
Causes of low sperm
count:
- Hormonal imbalance
- Undescended testicles
- Infections (e.g., prostatitis, epididymitis)
- Blockages or obstruction in the
reproductive tract
- Varicocele (swollen veins in the scrotum)
- Retrograde ejaculation
- Certain medications
- Lifestyle factors (e.g., smoking, excessive
alcohol consumption, stress)
- Environmental toxins
- Genetic factors
