Piles
Piles, also known as hemorrhoids, are swollen veins in the lower rectum or anus.
They can be
internal (inside the rectum) or external (under the skin around the anus).
There are three types of piles:
- Internal hemorrhoids: These occur under the skin around the anus and can be painful,
especially if a blood clot forms.
- External hemorrhoids: These occur under the skin around the anus and can be painful,
especially if a blood clot forms.
- Protruding hemorrhoids (Prolapsed hemorrhoids): These are internal hemorrhoids that
bulge out of the anus.
Piles are often caused by:
- Increased pressure on veins in the rectum
- Constipation
- Straining during bowel movements
- Sitting for long periods
- Pregnancy
